My approach
From the outside, your life might look as though you're coping well. You're the dependable one, the thoughtful friend, the capable colleague, the person others turn to. But inside, you may feel exhausted by constantly anticipating others' needs, questioning yourself, or wondering why the same patterns keep repeating. You long to feel more settled, more connected and more like yourself, but you're not quite sure how to get there. You may not be looking to become someone new. Instead, you may be longing to reconnect with the person you've always been beneath years of adapting, striving and trying to hold everything together.
With the vast choice of counsellors and psychotherapists out there, it can feel overwhelming knowing how to pick the right counsellor for you. Hopefully my website gives you a sense of who I am and how I work, but it's also a good idea to arrange for a free introductory call to able to get a sense of how I relate to you and your needs. I would also recommend checking whether your therapist is a member of a counselling organisation such as the BACP - you can find my BACP registered membership details at the bottom of my homepage.
It's not unusual to feel uncertain about starting therapy. You might wonder whether your problems are "big enough", worry that you'll become overwhelmed if you open everything up, or feel unsure where to begin. Perhaps you've spent so long holding things together that the idea of letting someone else in feels unfamiliar. You don't need to have the right words or a clear explanation for how you're feeling. You don't need to have reached crisis point. And you don't need to arrive knowing exactly what you want to change. To arrange for a free 15-minute introductory call, simply complete your details on the Here I can talk a little about my approach and how I would work with the issue you are seeking support for. We can also discuss availability and answer any questions you may have.
After the call, I will send you an email outlining the current slots I have available, along with an example contract for the sessions. I will provide a link to an intake form, where you can fill out some personal details along with your preference for the date and time of our first session.
The first session is about letting you get a feel for how I work as a counsellor, settle into the therapeutic space and gives us an opportunity to create a container for the work we are about to embark on together. My role in this session is to really get into your frame of reference and understand not only your story, but also what is impacting you in the here and how. Together we will try and clarify your goals for the work, as well as understanding what may be currently or historically be creating obstacles for you.
